Before I get onto Uluru, firstly Big Things at Coober Pedy. Interesting town … It was colder than I expected, but found a few interesting and Big Things.
The more recognisable is the Big Opal Bug/s … Interesting take on recycling a VW.
And then there is the Big Winch … Not on my list, but definitely big!
And a Big Boomerang? Not on list also, but right shape …
I also found a Tall, Skinny Man lol
One thing I found that baffled me was the Petrified Forest … A collection of rusty metal as pointy objects … There was no correlation between a forest and the objects … Maybe I don’t get modern art?
Finally back on road towards warmer climes … Heading north in the hope that the rain will stop, and the temperatures will rise … A misguided hope! At Kulgera it rained heaps, and it was bitterly cold … They do have a Big XXXX Can … Is it true that it is called XXXX because they couldn’t spell beer?
Made it to Uluru … Been here before, and it hasn’t lost it magical environs. It really is beautiful … And made more memorable by the Field of Light display by Bruce Munro … Quite moving … Standing at night surrounded by 50,000 lights … What a picture of delight. If you get a chance to visit Uluru, you really must see this amazing art installation. I would love to see something similar at MONA!
Of course you can’t go to the Red Centre without the ubiquitous photo opportunity … Uluru, aka The Big Rock, at its best!
Add Kata Tjuta (previously known as the Olgas) and you have some amazing rock formations.
I met a fab lady called Margaret and her daughter as we watched the sun going down … It is the random conversations I have with people like this pair that makes this trip more special … Get out there peoples … There are some amazing persons to be met out there!
I did explore around the base of Uluru, and found a beautifully peaceful corner under The Rock … A magical waterhole with water running down into it. The coloration of the water on the rock was very similar to that found at Wave Rock in WA.
Then I tried my hand at a Tina-styled arty photo … What do you think?
Mentioning arty … There are lots of rock paintings in caves around the base … This photo is an example …
Off to Kings Canyon today … The sun is shining, the skies are blue and magic is all around … No complaints from me … Taking time out to ‘smell the roses’ … All should do this ‘exercise’ on a regular basis … I recommend it!
